Centralized cryptocurrency exchanges are regulated companies that make it easier to purchase, sell, and trade cryptocurrencies. They serve as a middleman, trying to offer a secure means of facilitating user connections and the exchange of cryptocurrencies and fiat money.

Peer-to-peer marketplaces called decentralized exchanges, or DEXs, allow cryptocurrency traders to conduct trades directly without entrusting the administration of their money to a custodian or middleman. Smart contracts, which are self-executing agreements written in code, are used to expedite these transactions.

Private keys—the passwords that let you access to your cryptocurrency—are kept in cryptocurrency wallets. Cryptocurrency wallets can be classified as "hot wallets," which are online, or "cold wallets," which are offline. For long-term cryptocurrency storage, it is advisable to utilize a cold wallet because hot wallets are typically more vulnerable to hacking than cold wallets.

Although the terms "coins" and "tokens" are frequently used synonymously in the cryptocurrency space, they have important distinctions. A coin is a type of digital asset that runs on a separate blockchain, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. In contrast, a token is a digital asset that is constructed on top of an already-existing blockchain. For instance, the Ethereum blockchain is used to create a large number of tokens. Digital art (NFTs), voting rights in a project, and other assets or utilities can all be represented by tokens. Tokens are more akin to unique coupons or vouchers that may be used inside particular ecosystems, whereas coins can be thought of as the local money of a blockchain.
